WHAT IS TRANSMEDIA?
Transmedia is a story EXTENDED across at least three media. This means NEW content added in each media, not repurposed. A repurposed story is a mult-media story since it is the SAME story told in another media. As an example, with my transmedia romance series, in the first romance of the series, the story is told over book, video, video game, social media and live events. New content is in every media form so that a fan gets more story with every purchase. but now that I am creating this platform, fans can get all the media in one story world and they will no longer have to bounce around Amazon and social media sites to find individual products or story extensions.
WHAT IS A SEGMENT?
A segment is a group of media that extends a single story within a series. In TV, you call a single story an "episode". In books, you call a single story a "volume". But in transmedia, the story EXTENDS across three or more media, so what do you call a single story told over book, tv, game or more? As you can see, I am having to make up new language! I am calling a "segment" a group of media that extend a single story within a series.
Series title is: THE ELEMENTS CLUB
Segment 01 of the series is: Lord of Lingering Shadows
Segment 02 of the series is: Lord of Flawless Strength
WHAT IS ULTIMATE, ENHANCED & MONO?
Not every storyteller has the desire or the funds to create content for lots of media. Shooting video is seriously expensive. So the way I am building out the platform is to provide even text-only storytellers tools to extend their stories via transmedia and to house their series in a story world through the foundation of a narrative social game.
~ MONO is a story world that is text centered, but might also include illustrations.
~ ENHANCED is a story world that includes text with a mix of audio or video.
~ ULTIMATE is a story world that includes every media: text, illustrations, audio, video, and video games.
WHAT IS A STORY WORLD?
A story world is a group of web pages that houses the media of your story. When a fan enters the story world, everything in the world is tracked so that a fan gets rewarded for reading, sharing, creating, doing, etc. Transmedia Story Stream acts as the Universe that houses all the story worlds. An example that might help you is Netflix which acts as the Universe for video worlds. however, Netflix is not mixing in game mechanics or social media into their streaming experience.
WHAT IS WITH THE PRICING MODEL?
In the book industry, consumers are trained to buy a single story once. But in the the world of social video games, consumers are trained to enter a world for free and buy items in-game via micropayments. Since no one has ever mixed narrative with social game, I have no idea what creators or consumers will request, so until I get more data, the platform will allow micropayment, subscription, and single item purchases. My guess is that some consumers in some countries will want micropayment (in China, books are already sold in this form), and in other countries, subscription will be dominate.
